Learning Emergent Random Access Protocol for LEO Satellite Networks

چکیده

A mega-constellation of low-altitude earth orbit (LEO) satellites (SATs) are envisaged to provide a global coverage SAT network in beyond fifth-generation (5G) cellular systems. LEO networks exhibit extremely long link distances many users under time-varying topology. This makes existing multiple access protocols, such as random channel (RACH) based protocol designed for fixed terrestrial topology, ill-suited. To overcome this issue, paper, we propose novel contention-based solution networks, dubbed emergent (eRACH). In stark contrast model-based and standardized eRACH is model-free approach that emerges through interaction with the non-stationary environment, using multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL). Furthermore, by exploiting known orbiting patterns, does not require central coordination or additional communication across users, while training convergence stabilized regular patterns. Compared RACH, show from various simulations our proposed yields 54.6% higher average throughput around two times lower delay achieving 0.989 Jain’s fairness index.

A Routing Protocol for Hierarchical LEO/MEO Satellite IP Networks

The rapid growth of Internet-based applications pushes broadband satellite networks to carry on IP traffic. In previously proposed connectionless routing schemes in satellite networks, the metrics used to calculate the paths do not reflect the total delay a packet may experience. In this paper, a new Satellite Grouping and Routing Protocol (SGRP) is developed. In each snapshot period, SGRP divi...

Performance Analysis of MAC Protocol for LEO Satellite Networks

Considering that weak channel collision detection ability, long propagation delay and heavy load in LEO satellite communications, a valid adaptive APRMA MAC protocol was proposed. Different access probability functions for different services were obtained and appropriate access probabilities for voice and data users were updated slot by slot based on the estimation of the voice traffic and the ...

Satellite handover techniques for LEO networks

Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations could play an important role in future mobile communication networks due to their characteristics, such as global coverage and low propagation delays. However, because of the non-stationarity of the satellites, a call may be subjected to handovers, which can be cell or satellite handovers. Quite many techniques have been proposed in the literature ...

Datagram Routing Algorithm for LEO Satellite Networks

Abstmct Satellite networks provide global coverage and support a wide range of services. Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites provide short round trip delays and are becoming increasingly important. One of the challenges in LEO satellite networks is the development of specialized and efflcient routing algorithms. In this work, a datagram routing algorithm for LEO satellite networks is introduced. T...

An Adaptive MAC Layer Protocol for ATM-based LEO Satellite Networks (Extended Abstract)

German Aerospace (DLR), Fraunhofer FOKUS.cats, and Tesat-Spacecom have designed a future multimedia ATM-based LEO satellite network. Part of the development are an adaptive MAC and FEC scheme which is presented in this paper. The FEC implementation switches on the fly during a connection between several FEC and modulation modes to guarantee a maximum ATM cell error rate of 10−6. In order to pre...
